Spare parts for your Syphon

We get many enquiries from people looking for spare parts - charger holders, washers, tubes and so on. Unfortunately we are rarely able to help, so here are some ideas that may enable you to rescue and improve your syphon:

Charger Holders

This is the part most frequently missing - because it is detachable, it often gets 'put away' and then lost. The first thing to be aware of is that almost all syphons seem to have different charger holders, even though they mostly take the same standard CO2 gas bulbs. Different screw threads on the bottle mean that they are unlikely to work on bottles made by different manufacturers.

Best Whip sell replacement charger holders for Sparklets Syphons.

Sparklets in particular, because of the numbers around and still in use, are the most common - but they are no longer manufactured, so charger holders are normally only found at car boot sales and antique fairs. Quite often though you can find a bottle with holder for a pound or two - be ruthless - buy it and throw away the bottle (or use for spares). Occasionally they come up for sale on eBay, but more usually they are only available on eBay with a bottle, so be prepared to pay for them. Loose, you might pay £3-6, whereas a complete bottle with holder might cost anything from £5-20. Here is a picture showing the various types of Sparklets charger holders.

Rubber Washers

The washer that seals the neck of the bottle is an essential item - my only suggestion for these is to get yourslef to the nearest plumbers merchant or homebrew supplier, and take your old washer with you if possible, so you can find the nearest match.

For the more adventurous, there is the option of moulding your own from silicon modelling rubber. And if you get it right you might just find a ready market amongst other syphon owners!

These are just a few ideas - I welcome tips, suggestions and sources of useable spare parts.
